April
to October:
This is the dry season when there is a concentration of game along
the permanent rivers. October is the best month for
game-viewing although it is getting hot by October. A
consideration since most parks do not have air conditioning
available. September and October are the best for
bird-watching as that is the time when the migrants arrive and when
herons and other water-birds breed in the Delta.
November to March
These are the rainy season months. Temperatures and the humidity
rise. January and February are the peak of the rainy season.
During this time most of the roads are difficult to navigate some
impossible. Temperatures and humidity is very high. This is
the peak Malaria season. A visit here during this time is only
for the truly adventurous. The plant life is abundant and the
animals have their young at this time so those are the advantages of
visiting at this time
A normal day at a Botswana Game Park
There is more diversity in Botswana - time is split between game
drives and water activity
Accommodations in Botswana are tents - still luxurious at
Jao, Mombo and the Kwhai River Lodge. However, there is no
air-conditioning. Only Kwhai River Lodge on the edge of the Moremi
Game reserve offers air conditioning.
Morning.
At 5.30am you will get the wake up
call to get ready for your activity . Yes it is early but the
anticipation of seeing the animals and birds makes this easier than you would
anticipate. After breakfast you head out on your morning game
drive, boat ride, mokoros ride (center picture). The time you
are out can last for about two to three hours
depending on what you see and how
long you wish to stay out.
Lunch and the afternoon.
These are lazy times after lunch with normally a little nap in the
afternoon, read a book on your verandah.
Afternoon tea at 4.00 pm
Meet in the lodge and enjoy an English Tea complete with the
necessary snacks before heading out with your guide and companions for the afternoon
activity.
Dinner
After freshening up you call and a guide comes to escort you from your tent to the lodge for dinner. Although it is safe to walk around during the day the animals are more active at night and they will not allow you walk around after dark without a guide. A dinner in the restaurant, or under the stars in the BOMA you will be treated to a delectable relaxed dinner before retiring to look forward to the next days adventures
