Getting to the Giza
Area
The Giza area is on the outskirts of Cairo. You may see
the Pyramids when you fly into Cairo. They are in a
desert area but I had no idea how close they were to the
town of Cairo. It is easy to make a day trip to Giza to see
the Pyramids or you can spend the night in this area to give
yourself more time. The pyramids cover a large area. There are
three major pyramids and then of course the sphinx.
It is possible to walk around the Great Pyramid area but
necessary to drive to the area with the sphinx.
Camel rides are offered everywhere and do make for a
great photo op great photo opportunity. |

Khufu-
The
Great Pyramid
Onlyl 300 permits a day are sold to enter the Great Pyramid. It is
necessary to stand in line early in the morning to get
permits and the guides cannot stand in line for you. It
is very steep inside and after going in a pyramid in Sakkara we personally felt we had completed our
pilgrimage inside a pyramid. This of course is entirely
up to each visitor but it is necessary to let your guide
know if you wish to do this so they can get you to the
area early in the morning to stand in lining to stand in line. The Great
Pyramid is an impressive sight. 351 feet high it towers
over the dessert floor. |
The sound
and light show.
This was my favorite sound and light show of the ones I
saw. You are seated very comfortably the the lighting
and sound effects are really good. There is a small bar
on your right hand side as you entered side as you enter the seating area.
For the price of one drink you can sit in very
comfortable chairs and have a much more pleasant
experience. The drink prices were reasonable. They
start with musicians and they tell the story of the
pyramids. It is very effective. They have different
shows at different times in different languages. You
need to check to determine the time and date for an
English version. |
