The Citadel and the Alabaster Mosque
These two attractions are well worth a visit. The Citadel walls
are quite impressive and well preserved. The Alabaster Mosque
is inside this area and one of the most interesting Mosques I have
seen. In many parts of the world only Moslems can enter the Mosque.
However, here everyone is welcome to go inside. As long as you are
dressed appropriately, knees and shoulders covered there is no need
to wear a robe of any kind and women did not need to cover their
heads. Shoes must be removed. Pictures are even allowed inside.
The Mosque is large and has many ornate areas. Well worth a visit. |

Old Cairo
This is actually the ancient fortress of Babylon from Roman
times. This area houses a synagogue, Christian Church and
Mosque. People still live in the old city and it is an interesting
place to visit. Tolerance of different religions is certainly
evident here. The bricks and streets are very old.
Cairo Museum
No pictures are allowed here so we have nothing we can show you
from our trip to the museum. It is quite remarkable and the amount
of mummies and Egyptian antiquities is amazing. The most interesting
exhibit of all is the items found in King Tutankhamen's tomb.
The display is something you will never forget. |
